Pray for the Church
Praise God for the gift of our city and for all of our neighbors with whom we have great opportunity for gospel witness. Pray for each family within our faith family to shine brightly as lights pointing others to Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide each of us individually and us corporately as a church to know how to serve for the good of our city and the glory of God.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for the ministry of one of our urban partner churches, New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and their non-profit, New Rising Star Community Support Corporation (nrscommunity.org). Their non-profit is a vehicle to help them address five community development areas of need in the East Lake area through a Christ-centered approach: Education, Housing, Workforce Development, Senior Care, and Wellness. We welcome their praise team as they help lead us in worship today. We are also praying for the church itself, New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, and Pastor Thomas Beavers.
DAY 1: Pray for Christ to be exalted in the lives and ministries of New Rising Star Baptist Church. Pray for fruitful gospel witness in all they do. Pray for Pastor Beavers and the other church and corporation leaders to have the mind and power of Christ as they lead.
DAY 2: Pray for the approval of Star Academy as a charter school by the state authorities to serve low income families on the East side of Birmingham who don’t feel the current public school system is a viable option for their children, beginning in the fall of 2018.
DAY 3: Pray for the upcoming Spring & Summer Camps sponsored by the Community Support Corporation. Pray for enough
teachers, participants, and financial resources to succeed. Pray for students to trust in Christ while they grow in knowledge
through their enrichment programs.
DAY 4: Pray for the all the details to be accomplished for the purchase of Century Plaza so the church can relocate, the school can begin, and lots of ministries can locate there to serve the East Side of Birmingham. Pray for investors and funds for the projects.
DAY 5: Pray for the corporation to receive the funds necessary to purchase and renovate 20 homes to sell/rent to qualified
individuals. Pray for favor in a recent grant application toward that goal.
DAY 6: Pray for the work being done now to support the Connect 4 Careers Initiative (job fair) in September. Pray for employers to come and hire the 500-700 people who will attend and who desire to work.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for Brook Hills Long-Termer, Jenny W. serving in East Asia. Jenny serves as a Physical Therapist at a hospital in East Asia and is part of our Brook Hills East Asia Church Planting Team.
DAY 1: Praise God for Jenny’s three friends, Jane, Lydia, and Marta who have asked her more questions about Christ. Pray they will continue to seek Him and come to salvation.
DAY 2: Jenny continues to take language classes at a local university. Pray for the Holy Spirit to help her adequately learn the
language and be able to effectively communicate when speaking about spiritual truths.
DAY 3: Praise God for providing colleagues and friends for Jenny to get to know. Jenny is seeking to help her colleagues
improve their English by starting an English corner with them. Pray for the Lord to give Jenny wisdom and guidance as she
begins this, and for her colleagues who will be a part of this to learn more about Christ.
DAY 4: Jenny and her roommate are opening their home to share the gospel by hosting Bible studies with friends. Pray for the
Lord to use Jenny and her roommate to reach those who come through their door and that they will come to know the Lord.
DAY 5: Jenny continues to be very busy with school, work, and ministry. Pray for Jenny to find times of rest and for the Lord
to restore her soul and provide for her every need.
DAY 6: Praise God for all He is accomplishing through Jenny’s life in East Asia. Pray that Jenny will continue to be confident that the Lord is using her to make His name known.

Bless the Lord (Son of Man)
Son of Man, Son of Righteousness
King of the earth for sinners slain

My strength, My deliverer
The One who rescues me
My hope, My redeemer
Your love has set me free

In the splendor of Your majesty
From deep within my spirit sings
Holy, holy
Bless the Lord, O my soul (4x)

Your name is pow'r
A strong tower, makes me safe

By Faith
Verse 1
By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation's grand design
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight
Verse 2
By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the pow'r of His promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God's own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We'll walk by faith and not by sight
Verse 3
By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
With the pow'r to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave
Verse 4
By faith the church was called to go
In the pow'r of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In ev'ry corner of the earth
Verse 5
By faith the mountain shall be moved
And the pow'r of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name
