Pray for the Church
Praise God for the true freedom that can only be found in Jesus Christ. Thank God for all those who have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we experience here in our country and for the picture it is of the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus on the Cross. Pray for God’s comfort for all those who are hurting, but especially for those who are missing loved ones this weekend. Ask God to help us all use our liberty not for our own benefit but for the sake of others coming to know the gospel.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for Awaken, a gospel-based recovery ministry led by Brook Hills members, Greg and Stacey Oliver, dedicated to helping individuals and ministries navigate through the painful waters caused by sexual brokenness and addiction. One of the specific desires of Awaken is to establish relationships with local churches to help them better understand and respond to these issues within their local church. We’re also praying this week for Christ Church PCA Trussville and Pastor James Dickson.
Day 1: Pray for our communities of men and women who connect through weekly recovery meetings. Pray that those who attend—whether seeking help for their own addictive/unwanted behaviors or have been affected by a partner’s betrayal—will find hope and grace in a Christ-focused community.
Day 2: Pray for the many members of the Awaken community who do not live in the Birmingham area. Many men and women found Awaken meetings during the pandemic and have found it to be the only community in which they feel safe to share their stories. Pray that they will find safe friends and professionals where they live who can graciously help and walk with them.
Day 3: Pray for Awaken founders, Greg and Stacey Oliver. Pray that God will protect their marriage, give them grace and energy to walk with hurting men and women, and wisdom to set appropriate and healthy boundaries and limitations.
Day 4: Pray for Awaken’s Pastoral Cohorts, a new resource offered to pastors who desire to better understand sexual addiction, and to become equipped to more effectively shepherd their people walking through this type of brokenness.
Day 5: Pray for the board of directors as they seek to expand their number of members and find ways to more consistently and effectively engage with Awaken’s ongoing mission.
Day 6: Pray for God to stir more hearts to financially partner with Awaken. They need additional monthly support to sustain ongoing ministry efforts.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for R and B, leaders of our Central Asia Church Planting Team. They have been stateside this year preparing for their next phase of ministry. This Sunday, Brook Hills is excited to be able to send them out once again to start a new work among the unreached. Join us this week as we pray for them and commission their family out for this new work.
Day 1: Praise God for what He has accomplished through R and B’s leadership, and for the teams that have been formed over the years engaging the unreached. Pray for wisdom and confidence in Christ as R and B develop a new team in a new place so that many might hear the gospel.
Day 2: Pray for R and B as they travel and set up their new home. Pray for smooth entry into the country despite COVID-19 realities and visa challenges. Pray for God’s favor as they move into their new community and set up their life rhythms.
Day 3: Pray for joyful perseverance when they face difficulties. Pray for their minds to be set on Christ when they endure challenges.
Day 4: Pray for strategic access and immersion among the people they will be engaging. Pray for God to open doors into homes and into the lives of people who need Christ.
Day 5: Pray for R as he leads and shepherds his family. Pray for R to be wholly submitted to Christ. Pray for B as she continues to homeschool their children and manage their household. Pray for their family to flourish as they both love and lead together.
Day 6: Pray for R and B’s new team. Pray that they would be a people marked by urgent, courageous gospel proclamation and that many might hear the name of Christ and believe.
