Pray for the Church
Praise God for His faithfulness toward us and provision in our lives. Thank Him for all He has done and continues to do for us. Pray for Him to develop a spirit of gratitude within each of us. Ask Him to develop us further into a giving people who freely share from all He has given to us.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for our Brook Hills ESL Conversation Partners. Since October 2020, Conversation Partners have been developing intentional relationships with our international friends online and through socially distanced, in-person meetings. The time our English-speaking partners have spent with the internationals enrolled in ESL has allowed 64 students—representing 18 countries—the opportunity to practice speaking English and to get to know a new friend during this pandemic season. This spring, we are excited to continue offering both online ESL classes and Conversation Partners. If interested in serving, email .
We are also praying this week for Citizen’s Church in Irondale and Pastor Justin Karl.
Day 1: Pray for the BH Conversation Partners as they meet weekly with ESL students. Pray they will be able to connect and converse easily, and deepen their relationships with students as they share about who Jesus is and what He has done in their life.
Day 2: Pray for the international adult students who practice speaking English with the BH Conversation Partners. Pray God will give students an understanding of His Word that goes beyond language ability as some of the students hear about Jesus for the first time.
Day 3: Pray for the BH Conversation Partners to boldly proclaim the glorious gospel message. Pray they will not be hesitant to share because of a language barrier but will be bold—providing an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to draw people to Himself.
Day 4: Pray for the ESL students as they hear a message about Thanksgiving. Pray they will be welcomed into homes or invited to celebrate a holiday festivity with followers of Jesus. Pray they will find that joy and gratitude begins with abiding in Christ.
Day 5: Pray for the BH Conversation Partners who meet online with international students currently living in Guatemala, Japan, and Washington State. Pray for these unique opportunities to share about Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. Pray that next year our online platform will continue to bring opportunities to share the gospel with even more people outside of the Birmingham area.
Day 6: Pray for the BH Conversation Partners as they enter into the Christmas season. Pray that they will be able to clearly and simply communicate about the life of Jesus with the ESL students. Pray they can find creative ways during this advent season to teach and share about Christ with internationals in our city and around the world.
Pray for the World
The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the world without a nation of their own with a population of around 30 million. For centuries they have lived in Central Asia and the Middle East in a ruggedly mountainous region historically known as “Kurdistan.” Nearly 99% of Kurmanji-speaking Kurds are Muslims, though many of them are Muslim in name only. At present, there are several hundred Kurmanji Kurd believers sprinkled throughout the world, but fewer than a dozen evangelical churches are known to exist among them in their historic homeland. Despite repeated efforts to mobilize believers to work among them, there are still dozens of Kurdish cities of over 50,000 people that have virtually no access to the gospel.
Day 1: Ask God to strengthen and encourage the small number of Kurdish believers.
Day 2: The Kurdish people have been suppressed and their culture moderated. Pray for a rehabilitation of their culture and for healthy Kurdish contextual churches to grow in Turkey.
Day 3: The Bible in Kurmanji was completed in recent years. Pray for its widespread use among Kurds.
Day 4: Pray for God to call out more workers to learn Kurmanji and spend their lives for the sake of Kurds to know Christ.
Day 5: Pray for God to open doors into the Kurdish community for workers to access and for the gospel to spread.
